At this special two-hour event co-hosted by Mitchell•Giddings Fine Arts and Vermont Insight Meditation Center, David Hinton will read from his new book, “Orient: Two Walks at the Edge of the Human.” Hinton blends poetry and prose in this book, taking readers with him “on two walks into the wild beauty and archaeological ruins of the desert Southwest, where he maps the edges of consciousness and our place in the Cosmos.”

The event will feature an interview between Hinton and gallery co-owner Petria Mitchell and a Q&A session with Hinton as well as a book signing. Books will be available for sale by Antidote Books.

While there will be no Zoom option for this event, a professional recording will be available on YouTube after the event.

David Hinton has published numerous books of poetry and essays, and many translations of ancient Chinese poetry and philosophy that create contemporary works of compelling literary power, while also conveying the actual texture and density of the originals. These books are all informed by an abiding interest in deep ecological thinking, in exploring the weave of consciousness and landscape. This work has earned wide acclaim and many national awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and both of the major awards given for poetry translation in the United States: the Landon Translation Award (Academy of American Poets) and the PEN American Translation Award. Most recently, Hinton received a lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
