Emptiness, Its Origins: Part 1 with Paul Rodrigue

This 4 session class will explore the ideas found in one short document that preceded and was foundational to the development of Ch’an Buddhism. In this document, which only recently was translated into English for the first time, we find key concepts that inform how ideas of emptiness took root in Buddhism through Ch’an first, and eventually Zen. We’ll use these ideas to explore some of the fundamental ideas about practice and its goals, and what ideas of emptiness are inviting us to consider.
