Emptiness Part 2: How to Think about Nothing with Paul Rodrigue
Emptiness Part 2: How to Think about Nothing
Online course with Paul Rodrigue
Note: This class is best suited for experienced meditators looking to understand the original teachings of the Buddha and expand their practice using those teachings. You may participate in Emptiness Part 2 even if you did not take Emptiness Part 1.
In Emptiness Part 1 earlier this fall, we explored how Ch’an Buddhist teachings on emptiness originate in Taoist perspectives that reject the Buddha’s path of gradual training. In this next class, we will investigate what emptiness meant for the Buddha and how he encouraged the bhikkhus to practice it.
This teaching is profound in how it illuminates the architecture of the mind. We’ll use The Shorter Discourse on Voidness (MN 121) as our primary text. The goal of this class is to integrate this particular teaching into our practice and gain a greater vocabulary that can illuminate those subtle experiences we have that can be so hard to talk about.
5 Monday evenings: 7:00 – 8:15 pm, November 4, 11, 18, 25, and December 2.
Registration Closes: November 1
