Meditating With the Eyes

An Online Retreat

Meditating with the Eyes
with Bodhipaksa

May 27, 2023, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
The Zoom link will be sent by 5:00pm (ET) the day before the event.

If you’re used to meditating with the eyes closed, you may well tend to ignore them. This may be a missed opportunity.

In more than 30 years of teaching and 40 years of meditating, Bodhipaksa has developed a unique approach to practice that emphasizes being aware of the eyes and of our sense of vision. The eyes may constitute only a fraction of our body’s mass, but our sense of vision represents more than 70 percent of our sensory input, and how we relate to our visual field (even with the eyes closed) affects every aspect of our experience.

Bodhipaksa will introduce two core practices in this workshop:

He’ll show how “soft eyes” can radically calm the mind and give us access to the body’s sensations in a much more open, receptive, and holistic way than normal.

And he’ll explore how the practice of kind eyes can transform our practice of lovingkindness, giving us effortless access to feelings of warmth, appreciation, and caring both for others and for ourselves. Even after a brief experience of these two approaches to meditation, your practice may never be the same again.

Retreat Format:  Short talks and sitting practice, with opportunities for Q&A and sharing our experience.

Bodhipaksa was born Graeme Stephen in Scotland and currently lives and teaches in New Hampshire. He is a Buddhist teacher and author who has been practicing within the Triratna Buddhist Community since 1982 and who has been a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order since 1993.

He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Glasgow (1984) and a Master’s Degree in Buddhism and business from the University of Montana.

Bodhipaksa runs the online meditation center Wildmind (www.wildmind.org) to promote awareness of the positive effects of meditation.-
