Understanding the Buddha’s words as presented in the early discourses

Year-long, Online course with Paul Rodrigue

Every other Sunday in 2025 starting May 18
7 pm – 8:15 pm Eastern

Imagine shaping your practice based directly on the Buddha’s advice! This class offers an opportunity for ongoing study of the original discourses of the Buddha. In these discourses, or suttas, the Buddha lays out the foundation and details of his teaching in a variety of presentations, from brief poems offering encouragement on a single point to long narratives outlining his Gradual Training. The language can be dense and the references, obscure. Clarity on these matters can unlock a richness that broadens and deepens your practice.

Between each class, Paul will offer reflections, invitations, and optional assignments to guide your study. Do as much or as little as you wish. The primary goal is to cultivate an appreciation for and love of the suttas regardless of your experience level coming into the class. That said, the class may appeal most to those who have a daily meditation practice and some understanding of the Noble Eightfold Path.

The class meets online every other Sunday at 7 pm for the rest of 2025 beginning on May 18 (with an occasional interruption.)

You may choose between three registration options: 16 classes, 8 classes, or 4 classes. Feel free to estimate your anticipated attendance when registering. You are also welcome to register for 4 classes initially and then more later on if you choose.

The registration fee supports Vermont Insight. AND: We continue to offer the teachings freely to all who would benefit. When you register, please select from the fee levels listed, including fee waiver if that is right for you. Your practice is truly a gift to all.
