Vermont Insight Meditation Center offers several opportunities for meditation practice during the month. All are welcome, new and experienced students alike. Instructions are given when requested by those attending. Teachers or Practice Leaders are available for questions following the session.
Sunday Sitting Groups
The Sunday sitting group meets on the first and third Sundays of every month. It provides supportive instruction and teachings that illuminate the simple but very challenging practice of insight meditation and mindfulness practice, an ancient path taught by the Buddha. To walk this path of wisdom and compassion, we need the support of a community that shares this intention. Please join us. The group is appropriate for both beginning and experienced students.
Taught by Claire Stanley, Cheryl Wilfong, Jack Millett, with guest teachers
10:00am – noon
Neighbors’ Hall at Solar Hill, 229 Western Avenue, Brattleboro
Each second Sunday at Neighbors Hall, we offer a chance to support your practice by meditating with a group of dedicated people. Practicing in a group for two hours helps to strengthen daily practice, while the support of others encourages commitment and dedication. We sit (45 mins), walk (30 mins) and sit again (45 mins). Kate Wylie or another teacher leads the group with guidance and a poem or two to start and end the session.
On the fourth Sunday of almost every month, a daylong meditation retreat is offered from 10am to 4pm. Please see our schedule of retreats here or view on the Calendar.
Weekly Sitting Practice Groups
The Weekly Sitting Groups are available for anyone wishing to practice in Sangha (community) with optional guidance. Practice Leaders are available for questions following the sittings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Appropriate for new and experienced students. Instructions given when requested.

Dharma Friends Group (Kalyana Mitta)
Many Insight Meditation Centers around the United States offer guidance for members to self-organize to discuss the teachings and their applications to daily life in a friendly and supportive environment. As a peer-led group, the participants of a Dharma Friends or Kalyana Mitta group determine what to read and the structure of the weekly meetings. Discussions center on bringing the Dharma into practice in daily life.
Each week, an offering to VIMC is made to cover the cost of room rental.
This group is ongoing throughout the year.
Wednesday Evenings
6:30 – 8pm.
Cherry Room, First Floor

Dana
Within the Theravadin Buddhist tradition, generosity or dana is practiced by making an offering to the teachers. For 2600 years, since the time of the Buddha, the teachings have been considered priceless and have been offered freely. The teachers offer the dana or generosity of their teaching and they are supported through the dana of the students and the community. Weekly or bi-monthly sitting groups are offered entirely on a dana basis.
