Heavenly Messengers Sunday Half-Day
June 18, 2023, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
with Kim Weeber,
in the VIMC Hall and on Zoom

We will send the Zoom link by 5:00 pm (ET) the day before the event to all participants whether you are coming in-person or on Zoom.

We all feel as if death is far away – until we get the diagnosis. I got my diagnosis last month. What an opportunity to practice!

Come join me in working with the Heavenly Messengers – old age, illness/decay and death. We will practice compassion and hold space for whatever is in our hearts as we explore these truths. This material can be intense, but we can deepen our freedom by allowing ourselves to get in touch with the truth.

Can we face the truth of impermanence while we have the opportunity to deepen our compassion and find freedom in the midst of suffering?
If you have any questions about whether this retreat is for you, please email me at kimw@rivervalleyinsight.org

Retreat Format:   Dharma instruction and talks interspersed with sitting practice, walking practice, guided meditation, opportunities for Q&A, and small groups or dyad work, in the hall with Kim in person, as well as the Zoom Sangha.

Kim Weeber has studied and practiced meditation since 1987 in the yoga tradition, with Self Realization Fellowship; in Zen traditions from 1988 – 1997 with Danan Henry, Roshi, of the Denver Zen Center, with Robert Aitken, Roshi, and in the Monastery Without Walls program.

She was introduced to Vipassana in 1997, studying with Bhante Gunaratana, his student, Matthew Flickstein, and Jacqueline Mandel. She also studied in the UK with Christina Feldman and Yanai Postelnik, including several months of jhana practice, as well as an introduction to Dzogchen from Charles Genoud, of the Ningma Tibetan tradition. She ran a weekly meditation class for prisoners for 2 years in Ohio.

When she moved to Northampton, she was invited by Arinna Weisman to be a practice leader at Dhamma Dena/Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley and then to train in Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s 3-year Community Dharma Leader program taught primarily by James Baraz and Tara Brach. She has continued her studies, including learning from Lama John Makransky in the Tibetan tradition, to supplement her training in the Theravadin tradition; studying neuroscience and meditation with Culadasa John Yates, PhD, author of The Mind Illuminated; completing a 12-session Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness course with David Treleaven, PhD and taking Analayo’s intensive Satipatthana Meditation course at Barre Center for Buddhist Studies.

She teaches locally and on line, and continues her training with Amita Schmidt, Jill Shepherd, and other teachers in the Theravadin and Tibetan traditions. Her long term teacher, Arinna Weisman’s lineage is through U Ba Khin, a Burmese lay teacher.
